I saw the episode of The Profit featuring Sweet Pete’s candy. I have to say, even watching on TV, your candies and your passion for making candy made me crave something sweet! I sure hope you’ve been able to ditch that good-for-nothing dead weight partner who was trying to hold you hostage in a partnership you weren’t interested in being in. I think partnering with “The Profit” was a saving grace for you both that was well timed and well deserved. I could not believe the audacity of that man, DANE, who invested a whopping $2000 in your business believing he deserved ANY share of the company!! I mean, come on Dane…$2000??? I am a single mother and I’ve loaned more than that for a friend’s up and coming business AT NO INTEREST, and no equity!! Now if the loan had been for $200,000, I may have asked for a reasonable share… But not $2000!! It was obvious hat Dane was exploiting the talents of Sweet Pete’s without bringing ANYTHING to the table. I am still in shock that I could develop SUCH DISDAIN for a man I’ve never met during the course of an hour long TV show!! Disdain to the extent that I looked up your website JUST TO WRITE to tell you how much I could not stand that man!! But also, to say that your passion in making candies, caring about each little piece, and CARING about the customers who will be eating them, was shown loud and clear! Not only do I plan to place an order, but I vacation in Florida and pass through Jacksonville once a year…and next time, I vow to stop into your store and enjoy some candy and soak up the Sweet Pete’s atmosphere.
It just warms my heart to know that sometimes, the “nice guy” really does win!
And as I watched the show with my 13 yr old son, I used it as a learning tool to show him that even in unfair circumstances, keeping your integrity and never giving up on what is RIGHT, will eventually reap rewards. You don’t lose until you quit. And your appearance on “The Profit” couldn’t have been a better display of that lesson.
I wish you all much success and happiness in your lives and business from here on out. I’ve not yet even tasted those delicious looking candies, but I can guarantee I will be a customer.
I don’t even know if this message will actually be read by Sweet Pete and his wife, but if so, please know your story has had an impact on myself, my son, and most likely millions of people!
